Happy Halloween from our little pumpkin head

Anna was a jack o' lantern for Halloween. The other kids in her class came dressed in Halloween-themed clothing but no costumes. She did fine at day care with NO fevers. Yeah! By the way, she weighed 12 lb, 10 oz yesterday at the doctor's office. Anna's new hobby is sucking her thumb. I barely use a pacifier anymore becuase she is so good a pacifying herself now.

feeling better

Anna is doing much better. She hasn't had a fever since I picked her up from daycare, and she is eating and sleeping well. We went to the doctor this morning, and everything was fine. We hired a nanny from "Parents in a Pinch" who is this cooky grandma from Marietta. She said Anna did beautifully so that was a huge relief.

I have been trying to get Anna to hold on to things, and she has gotten pretty good at it. She is starting to bring things to her mouth (mainly her thumb). Yeah milestones!

I got the call I have been dreading for the past 4 weeks. Anna's daycare called as I was seeing my last patient letting me know that Anna had a fever of 101.1. She had just been a little fussy, but otherwise had no sign of infection. I went to pick her up, got her settled, called the pediatrician to set an appointment for the morning, canceled my morning patients, called Liz/Erika/Mama for consults, and secured a sitter to watch Anna at home tomorrow. Meanwhile, Anna was puny, but snuggly. Here she is before I put her to bed.

Here is a framed picture of Anna's hand and footprints at 10 weeks old. We had them made when we went to visit Erica in Tampa and then framed for Rob's birthday. Also, Anna's hair has filled in. She still has a ring of red baby hair around the nape of her neck, but the top is much lighter.

Uncle Adam's visit

We had a fun weekend with Uncle Adam and Denny. Anna has slept through 2 of the past 3 nights, so we appreciated that she coordinated that with our indulgent weekend.

noodle legs

Anna's legs are so strong. Since this video was taken last weekend, she can now stand for a long time as long as you help her keep her balance. She hardly ever gets noodle legs anymore. Now sitting, that's another story. That's going to take some serious practice.

It has turned cold in Atlanta, so Anna wore her adorable teddy oversuit this morning. She was rediculously cute. Here is our collage based on the five senses: she feels the water, smells the lotion, drinks her bottle, hears her sleep sheep, and sees our family. Not my best work, but since we were one of the only three families that actually did our homework, I figure it turned out pretty well!

fall festival

Today we went to a fall festival at Anna's daycare. It was really awesome, and all the kids and staff were there. The kids dressed up in their halloween costumes, so here you can see our little pumpkin head. Anna pretty much slept through the whole thing while all the other kids were playing. There were tons of games and prizes for the kids. Here are all of Anna's teachers, but Miss Shalanda, Anna's main caregiver, is in the middle picture. We love her.

Good morning to me

Look at the cute girl I got to wake up to this morning. Anna slept an unbelievable 10 hours straight last night (5:30pm-3:30am), woke up to eat, and went back to sleep until 7:30am. She must be growing. This little girl is eating non-stop and sleeping so well. Careful, I may get used to this.

Mama Kae and Papa

Mama Kae and Papa stopped through town on their way up to Cashiers this week. Not only did they watch Anna for the night so I could go out with a friend, but they fed Anna overnight so I could sleep! Mom even did laundry! They're the best!

I had some free time during lunch today so I snuck over to see Anna. It's a 10 minute walk door-to-door. Of course when I got to her day care, she was asleep but I hung out for a little bit with her anyway. Here are two of her teachers, Shalanda and Antionette, who are so great. Miss Antionette has a great voice and sings to the kids every day. Miss Shalanda is Anna's primary teacher. She says that Anna is doing great, hates sleeping on her back (just like at home) or in her crib, and that she is smiling more and more. The "color of the month" is brown, and the teachers have been making a bunch of collages like this one of the bears. They said that Anna was fascinated by the bears for some reason.

12 weeks old

Anna was 12 weeks old yesterday. It's hard to believe how fast time flies. She is growing and getting stronger every day. She can pretty reliably hold her head up now, and she is quickly outgrowing her clothes. Thank goodness for the awesome hand-me-downs we have been getting! Today she decided to wake up at 4:00 am, and by the time of this entry at 6:30 is napping in her car seat so we can go to work in just a bit. She is wearing an adorable romper and hat we got from my cousin, Meg.

Anna is doing great in daycare, sleeping and eating well. Her teachers are taking great care of her which has made going back to work a lot easier than I thought. Despite being an infant, she already has "homework" this month. She (i.e. Rob and I) has to bring in a collage based on the 5 senses, decorate a pumpkin, and decorate a onesie for "going green day." Rob said, "They do realize that she's a baby, right?" I'm interested to see what all the overachieving parents bring in. There is a festival/open house next weekend, so we will get to meet all the other families.

We're surviving

Well, we've made it through two full days of work. Anna and Finlay did fine at daycare and both went to sleep easily whne we got home. I feel better than I did last week about going back to work. I received a warm welcome from the practice, and I felt really comfortable getting back into the rhythm of patient care. I really love my new practice, so that makes it easier to part with my time as a stay-at-homer.

lazy Sunday

Today was a lazy Sunday and great last day before I start back to work. I start back in the morning, and I have our clothes laid out, lunchboxes backed, and alarm clock set. I'll drop Finlay and Anna off at their respective daycares, and then it will be off to work for me. Wish us luck!

Erica and I took our girls to have their portraits made in Tampa last week. Even though Anna was fussy, we got a lot of great shots. I know I'm biased, but I think she's beautiful!
